Depeche Mode, British electronic music pioneers, formed in 1980 in Basildon.

With Dave Gahan as vocalist, Martin Gore as primary songwriter, and Andrew Fletcher and Vince Clarke (replaced by Alan Wilder) completing the band, their dark, avant-garde sound defined them.

Their album "Violator" (1990) catapulted them to global fame with "Enjoy the Silence."
