The Coliseu de Elvas, officially Coliseu Comendador Rondão Almeida, is a multipurpose pavilion where events of all types can take place at any time of the year, located in the city of Elvas in Portugal.[1] [2]
It is owned by the Elvas City Council and was opened on September 28, 2006. It was the second bullring in Portugal to be covered after the Campo Pequeno Bullring in Lisbon. It has a removable cover that allows shows to be held at any time of the year.[3]
With a capacity for 6,500 people to sit, going up to around 7,500 people in concerts and other shows with adequate audience capacity, the Coliseu de Elvas is currently the largest concert hall in Alentejo and Southern Portugal. It is considered one of the biggest and best concert halls in Portugal, and it is even said that there is none with these characteristics between Lisbon and Madrid.
It has a complete infrastructure of dressing rooms, technical rooms and a VIP room.
It was built from scratch with an investment of more than 8 million euros, on the site where the old Elvas Bullring was located and took around 2 years to be built due to the grandeur and scope of the project.[4]
It is located on Avenida de Badajoz, next to Bairro Europa and Bairro do Morgadinho, at the entrance to the city, towards Lisbon-Elvas. There are still several commercial areas nearby, such as Galeria Comercial Intermarché, Pingo Doce and Bricomarché.
Still inside the coliseum although with access from the outside, the coliseum is part of the city's nightlife, with 4 night bars found there.
